Please take note of the following adjustments to the short code provisioning timeline in anticipation of the upcoming Canadian carrier brownout period.
The brownout is an annual event where carrier provisioning activities are temporarily suspended. During this period, the activation of new short codes and changes requiring network updates to existing short codes, such as aggregator migrations or price point adjustments, will not take place.
Here are the key dates you need to be aware of:
• Application Submission Deadline: To ensure your short code is provisioned on all carriers before the brownout, please submit your application by Thursday, October 26, 2023, at 1:00 PM Eastern Time (ET).
• Provisioning Period: For applications submitted by October 26, 2023, participating carriers will provision your short code between November 14 and December 12, 2023.
Rest assured, the Short Code Council will maintain ongoing meetings throughout November and December to review applications. Provisioning activities will commence starting January 8, 2024, with Freedom/Shaw, followed by Rogers and TELUS on January 9, 2024.
